Vaginal Yeast Infections: One Pill Is Not The Answer

Vaginal yeast infections (also known as Candida vaginitis), can be an unpleasant and uncomfortable topic for women who suffer from this condition.

At Mitchell Medical Group, we regularly see women who have been to their gynecologist for these infections, but they experience chronic relapses. Why?

ONE PILL IS NOT ENOUGH

These relapses happen because one pill of an anti-fungal medication is not sufficient to treat the problem. Vaginal yeast infections may appear to be a local problem, but they are the perfect example of the more complex medical issue concerning a micro-biome imbalance.

OUR INTERNAL MICRO-BIOME

Our internal microbiome (the coexistence of bacteria and fungi in our bodies) is getting increased attention in the lay and medical news. Medical researchers are becoming aware of how important maintaining a balance between good and bad bacteria in our own body affects our health.

The problem is that doctors and patients may be their own worst enemies in disrupting this critical balance.

ARE ANTIBIOTICS TO BLAME FOR YEAST INFECTIONS?

Yes, but only partly. In many cases, the women I see who present with chronic Candida vaginitis have been on antibiotics—in most cases multiple courses. But yeast infections can even occur after 1 course of antibiotics. In other cases, their diet may be high in sugar, along with enjoying regular glasses of wine with dinner. This can also provoke yeast infections.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CANDIDA OVERGROWS?

In both of these situations, the stomach or gut microbiome has been disrupted, leading to an overgrowth of Candida. When the Candida overgrows it can escape the bowels (a “Leaky Gut”) and seed into the vaginal area. Once the Candida overgrows in the vagina it causes symptoms of intense itching, discharge, and extreme discomfort.

WHY DOESN’T ANTIFUNGAL MEDICATION WORK?

If Candida is a fungus or yeast, why doesn’t an anti-fungal medication, like Diflucan, “fix” the problem?

Because, if the vaginal environment, as well as the gut environment, is not properly restored, the Candida will continue to regrow.

At Mitchell Medical Group, we have a unique 3-step process to remove the overgrowth of Candida, restore immune balance and eliminate that extreme discomfort once and for all.

OUR CANDIDA TREATMENT

The essentials elements of our Candida treatment are the “Cleanse” and “Build-up” phases (find out more about our comprehensive Candida treatment). Many of my clients have conquered Candida vaginitis in the Momentum phase, by following a proper diet, using key vitamins and safe antifungals that not only cleanse the vagina but also keep the bowels clean of Candida. In cases of chronic Candida, sublingual Candida drops can also help build up immunity for lasting protection.

If you suffer from chronic yeast infections, call us today to see how you can benefit from a more comprehensive approach and treatment.
